Professional Background
From support help desk to system analyst/developer to webmaster. These are
a few roles representing some of my fifteen years of experience in
information technology. Those roles covered:
- understanding people's business needs
- documenting those needs for both end users and developers
- supporting systems by providing documentation, help text, and troubleshooting expertise
Skills
When communicating with people having various backgrounds and education levels
who may come from different locales, clear communication is the key to a
successful project outcome. That's the case whether the project is creating
instructions for installing virus scanning software or implementing a large
scale financial application.
Writing has always been an integral part of my tool set. I know the importance
to make things understandable for a specific audience. Having worked internationally
also gives me an understanding of communicating to non-native English speakers.
Some of the types of writing I've done include:
- user manuals
- installation instructions
- requirements documents
- system analysis documents
- technical design documents
- newsletter articles
- copywriting
Personal
My early education was spent studying journalism before I focused specifically on
a business and technology career in the corporate world. I'm now bringing my systems
and computing background to my role as a technical and business writer.
I am an American citizen and grew up outside of Chicago, Illinois.
Currently I live in The Netherlands.
